Within all the chaos of the letdown and disaster that 2020 has been, we have to hold on even tighter to the things that may bring us a brief moment of happiness. Luckily for indie fans, the dynamic band Hundredth has released a new album this year, titled “Somewhere Nowhere”.
I stated in a previous review of the titular track “Somewhere Nowhere” that I wasn’t a big fan of the opener but was excited to see where this album would lead. Building upon the sounds established on their last album, “RARE”, the band is sticking with their indie sound, but this release has more of an electro-pop flair rather than the shoegaze rock that was found on their last LP.
Following up “Somewhere Nowhere” is “Out of Sight.” This tune is upbeat and catchy as hell.
The hook is infectious, and honestly, all I can say is it’s a jam. Moving on, I noticed the band included a handful of tracks released last year on an EP called “Iridescent” on the album.
If you enjoyed the EP when it dropped, you’ll enjoy the rest of this release. The band has fully embraced luscious synths, vocals soaked in reverb, and very 80’s inspired drum beats.
This album makes me feel as if I am in a silky dream. The production is very sweet and sticky, by that I mean this is a very feel-good album.
Frontman Chadwick Johnson's vocals are soft and dare I say angelic to a certain degree. This is a record I could see myself blasting while cruising down the highway.
This album is a solid indie-pop project. My one criticism would be that while everything sounds very nice, I do think it all sounds fairly similar.
I had a hard time differentiating some tracks from one another. Standout tracks for me on this album are “Whatever”, “Out of Sight”, and “Leave Yourself” to name a few.
I didn’t care for “Bottle it Up” as well, but that’s just me. Other than those two, this is a great album any fan of laidback indie-pop should check out!
"Somewhere Nowhere" is available to stream wherever you listen to music, and you can support Hundredth by picking up some merch from their online store.
