"you!"-LANY Review

Written by: Lyric Beyerl

Not long after LANY announced the release date of their third album Mama’s Boy, the band has provided us with a song to tie us over until then. Titled you! marks the third and newest single as well as a music video, off of Los Angeles CA alt-rock band LANY’s upcoming record.

The video shows the band playing in the middle of a remote desert, frontman Paul Klein wearing a white dress with a blue floral pattern as they play an emotionally gripping performance. The lyrics have an art of being simple yet powerful, “You’re the air in my lungs//You’re the veins to my blood” accompanied by the repetitive “I’m nothing without you.” With Klein’s voice, Les Priest strumming catchy guitar riffs, the heavy drums by Jake Goss and with a children’s choir singing along halfway through, the song sounds beautiful. The song could be dedicated to a person you care deeply for - as was their last song, if this is the last time, but some fans have dubbed this as a worship song, which to be fair wouldn’t be surprising considering the lead singer’s (if I’ve not mistaken all the band members) background. Although I wouldn’t call LANY a religious group.)

Lyrics, “You’re the sun to the moon” could be a closing goodbye to the Moon Era as the band transitions into their newest journey. You can listen to you! on streaming platforms and look for their latest album, Mama’s Boy out on October 2.
