Wolf Rd Showcases Their Softer Side With Beautiful Breakup Ballad "As Good As It Gets" - Review

Written by Megan Langley

At the end of 2019, Chicago, Illinois-based band Wolf Rd released their debut EP “Nowhere Around You,” which showcases a fusion of influences within the pop-punk, emo, rock, and metal sphere. Fast forward to spring of 2021, and the quartet is making a return with the release of their latest single, a laid-back acoustic ballad titled “As Good As It Gets.”

The song is primarily driven by acoustic guitars, but it kicks off with horns, bells, and string instruments. The vocals will instantly grab listeners' attention and continue to amaze them leading up to the song’s memorable chorus.

This track also features a guest vocalist, Sylvia Mendez, who takes the lead during the second verse and pre-chorus. The return of the chorus delivers with beautiful harmonies between her and Wolf Rd's Chris Hoffmann.

Lyrically, this song is very unique, discussing a breakup from the perspectives of both sides of the relationship, with each singer speaking from their own point a view. This really paints a picture for the listener, allowing them to get even more insight into the relationship.

“As Good As It Gets” is now available on all streaming platforms; you can follow Wolf Rd on Twitter @WolfRdBand and support them by picking up some merch from their website. If you’ve listened to the track, let us know what you think by tweeting us @lgndsoftmrw!
