Alternative music is a genre that spans multiple avenues, and Wild Truth has carved out its niche. Among heavy-hitters, alt-poppers, and alt-rockers, they have a sound that is entirely their own.
Nick Gargiulo, Will Beasley, and Clayton Sargent make up the outfit, writing and creating songs that hit the little alternative gland in everyone’s brain. The band dropped their EP “Drift” on April 2nd, 2021.
This five-song release perfectly encapsulates the sound of the Wild Truth and acts as a great primer for new listeners. It's easy to hear the many influences of the band, including Fall Out Boy, Weezer, and even Kings of Leon.
The first point of praise for this EP is the vocal stylings of Gargiulo. His delivery spearheads the album forward, sitting just high up enough in the mix not to overpower the instrumentals.
Gargiulo’s voice is a quintessential pop-punk tone, which is a perfect fit for his band's style. It helps to create a sound that is somehow both heavy and easy on the ears.
A standout track on “Drift” is “The River.” Sargent’s drums keep immaculate time, adding a level of professionalism to a genre that is anti-establishment in nature.
Gargiulo’s guitar work excels in the piece as well, changing from a picked to a strummed riff flawlessly. The title track, “Drift,” is another showcase of the musicality of this band.
Beasley’s bass work is akin to a choice butcher’s cut, with beautiful marbling and blending throughout. As the song progresses, his tone tenderizes the song, so to speak.
As a whole, this EP helps to define what Wild Truth's is as a band, crafting a unique and highly enjoyable sound throughout. Their talent makes it hard to believe that this is their first extended release after a series of singles that they only started dropping two years ago and that they only signed to Open Your Ears Records about a month ago; we can't wait to see how they'll impress us next!
