'What's It Like'- You Me At Six Review

You Me At Six dropped their first single since their album VI on August 15th, titled Whats It Like, and reviews are already pouring in. The song has a video as well, so the hype was pretty heavy. 

The song is a bit of a mashup of different genres, which sounds like it could very well be a nightmare track but they made it work. It starts with a more electronic vibe, mixed in with instrumental and it sounds so good. The vocals on top of the track sound so solid, the chorus being one of my favorites from them. 

The track carries a very impactful feeling, it’s not super heavy but it’s not light either, and the electronic mixed in provides an interesting experience. The lyrics are interesting as well- they are reflecting a lot on society and emotions which provides a heavy feeling but the way the song is it doesn’t feel too heavy.

This track may not be for everyone, it is leaning more towards mainstream radio style than what they have done before- but it works. It is such a good song, and I think that once people get to sit with it for a few days they will start to appreciate the experience the song provides more.

In 2019, electronic music has been doing very well- so them choosing to incorporate some of that was very clever, and I am curious if they will continue to use different genres in their music. 

This song is a hit in my opinion, it’s catchy, has good lyrics and incorporates a few genres so it is likely to appeal to more people than other songs of theirs would. It is an enjoyable song to listen to, and I think a lot of people will find an interest in the song.
