The new Waterparks era is officially upon us! After months of teasers, the trio has announced their fourth album titled “Greatest Hits” which is set to be released May 21st.
In September 2020, the first song off of the album, “Lowkey as Hell” was put out. That track set the stage for the whole album while it had yet to be announced.
A few months later, we now have an album announcement along with a new single titled “Snow Globe!” This track can in no way be described as the typical Waterparks sound, but it's still incredibly unique.
Frontman Awsten Knight has said multiple times on his Instagram stories that for this album you “need to keep an open mind”, and that fact definitely stands for “Snow Globe” as the band experiments with a new electronic sound. The track starts off with an unexpected piano line that draws you in.
The production and mixing of “Snow Globe” are both so well done. Along with vocals and a killer bassline, you could listen to this song a million times and always find something new.
The whole song lyrically describes Knight’s feeling of being stuck in place with people not wanting the band to grow in their sound and wanting the old band back along with himself. This is exemplified in the chorus when he sings, “I get to debate myself / And quiet all the evil things I say like / 'Everybody hates you' / 'People miss the old you' / 'They hate everything that they all changed you into.'”
In their 2014 track “I’m a Natural Blue”, Knight wrote, “There will come a day when I will make things different / Throw down everything and make it futuristic”, and it couldn't have been a better predictor of the band's work in 2021. Waterparks also released a music video for this new song which is definitely worth watching!
“Snow Globe” is available now along with preorders for the upcoming album “Greatest Hits.” Make sure you’re following the band on Twitter to be the first to know when they're doing something new @Waterparks and tell us how excited you are for the new record by tweeting us @lgndsoftmrw!
