To start off the month of February, New-York based project Vary Suite, also known as Brian Magnan, is back with his first EP, titled “A.I.” The EP introduces a new, elevated sound for Vary Suite, definitely Magnan’s best yet.
The EP opens with “Catch-25”, a strong, pop-rock-focused track talking about the demons Magnan is dealing with at age 25, and his struggles with trying to deal with them. The track is the perfect opening for this EP, bringing the listener in with a catchy chorus and easy beat to keep up with.
Following “Catch-25” is “Pretender”, which introduces a new sound, more rooted in punk music. It helps pick up the tempo as the listener continues on to the last four songs. Magnan’s voice stands out in this entire EP, but comes through very prominently in this song, along with some screaming on the track followed by a guitar solo.
The third track on “A.I” is “A Glitch in the System”, which was the single dropped before the EP’s release, carrying the slightly heavier tone and keeping the listener completely engaged throughout. The transitions on this EP are all incredible, creating one flowing piece of music that's enjoyable to listen to in full.
Next is “Full Dive”, my personal favorite on the EP, which sees Magnan incorporate some rap elements, keeping the sound of this EP continuously evolving and becoming infinitely more interesting to listen to. It has a sound similar to Linkin Park while also being completely original and inventive.
“Re:Invent”, the next song on the EP, seems to go more down the pop-punk route, introducing guitars with a different sound than the previous songs. With lighter instrumentals, Magnan’s voice is allowed the listeners' full attention and shows off exactly what he is capable of.
The next and final song on “A.I”, titled “Gray Matter”, carries a more upbeat tone and serves as a satisfying ending. It's reminiscent of summer music festivals and live performances, which we hope we get to attend sooner rather than later.
“A.I.” is available for streaming wherever you listen to music. You can keep up with Vary Suite on Twitter @VarySuite and make sure to let us know what you thought of the EP on our Twitter @lgndsoftmrw as well!
