Tooth Cemetery Packs a Punch on Debut Album - "The First Year" Review

Written by David Tauscher

To close out their first year as a band, DIY group Tooth Cemetery have released their first full-length album, a compilation of sorts including all of the songs that they released in 2020, aptly titled, "The First Year." This record has elements of indie, punk, and garage rock that will definitely appeal to listeners.

Right away, their opener “No Fun” starts off with a crescendo yell full of energy. The song holds nothing back, coming in full force with raging guitars, vicious drums, and some synths tucked into the mix.

As mentioned before, there's an interesting blend of genres present here. There are elements of garage rock and punk, and even a sprinkle of shoegaze on tracks like “Light Brown 1984 Honda Accord (And Other Places I Never Wanna Go Back to)."

More than anything, I feel as if Tooth Cemetery is channeling the aesthetics of many classic punk bands, bringing that feel and style into modern-day indie music., similar to the early sounds of The Dillinger Escape Plan. Sonically, these songs are very dissonant and feel chaotic at times but they eventually come together and resolve.

At its core, this album is raw, sweaty, garage punk that will no doubt translate well to a live setting. This band has the beginnings of something special, and we can't wait to see what they do next.

"The First Year" is available to stream wherever you listen to music, and you can support Tooth Cemetery by following them on Twitter @ToothCemetery. If you've checked out this album, be sure to let us know what you thought of it by tweeting us @lgndsoftmrw!
