On Thursday, March 25th, PHEELINGS FEST was streamed by No Cap Shows at the Roxy in Los Angeles. Phem curated the lineup of special guests and collaborators.
Wrenn, Royal and the Serpent, Sueco and the Child, and Alice Longyu Gao were the main artists featured on the bill to draw viewers in. There was also a live chat available for those streaming the concert.
Alice Longyu Gao opened the show with her song, “Let’s Simply Fucking Go”. She DJed and sang over the tracks, and even played some songs that hadn’t been released like “Underrated Pop Star”.
Gao's wild personality made her incredibly likable; she danced around her table as she sang and DJed. There was so much energy in this set and the live chat loved it.
“Is this music? I don’t know if this is music,” she said before playing what she referred to as her “conversation with music.” This was a hyper-pop song called, “Fuck You, I am the Future of Music”, which included improvisation and was incredibly fun to watch.
Up next was Wrenn who brought a completely different vibe. She opened her set with an angelic, slower song called “Hailey”.
She was playing her green guitar, wearing a long and flowy white dress, backlit beautifully, and overall it just felt soft. Her voice is so gentle while still being strong.
Wrenn’s vocals were so lovely to listen to and she was in control of her voice for the entire performance. She only played two songs and the chat definitely wanted to hear more from her.
Royal and the Serpent opened up with “Overwhelmed”, which has become incredibly popular thanks to the TikTok app. She was joined on stage by Chri$tain Gate$ and they sounded absolutely fantastic.
Royal’s voice sounds almost like a mix between indie and classic rock, which is such a cool combination to hear. They were joined on stage by Phem for the unreleased song “Girls.”
Next up was Sueco the Child who started his set with “Fast.” He was super energetic, and got everyone in the chat super hyped up.
PmBata joined Sueco the Child on stage for one track as well. He performed two unreleased songs, one of which was called “Get the Fuck Out of my Face”, a mix between early 2000s alternative mixed with today’s rap.
Phem was the final act and she did not disappoint. She opened laying across a few cubes singing her song “Self Control”.
She then grabbed her guitar and played “Dead Yet”. Phem has such a presence on stage, making the virtual crowd really feel like they were a part of the set.
“Grim Reaper” was next, and Phem sang this song sitting down, as it was a slower song from the first two. Tyler Posey came out for the next song, “Shut Up”, a track they collaborated on and was released on March 5th.
Phem also played “Congratulations” which dropped at midnight the next day. She closed the show with a cover of the classic Wheatus track “Teenage Dirtbag”.
Each act featured at PHEELINGS FEST was unique from the last, including hyper-pop, EDM, indie, acoustic, rock, rap, alternative, and more. The healthy mix of sounds all complemented each other, making for a super fun virtual festival.
