Earlier this year, The Spill Canvas announced their signing to Pure Noise Records, and with it came the announcement of “Conduit,” their first full-length album since 2012’s “Gestalt.” Upon hearing each of the singles from “Conduit” as they released, fans grew more and more excited to hear what the rest of the record had in store.
The opening track “Architecture” begins with upbeat riffs and drums that drive the intro and continue to carry the rhythm for the rest of the song. The softer verses lead up to the song’s chorus, which contains some interesting lyrics, such as, “Each and every one of us are architects / It’s hard to design a death that we could live with.”
The lead single “Firestorm” follows it up, with catchy instrumentals and melodies immediately that will immediately catch your attention. The intriguing vocals in the verses prepare the listener for the huge chorus that follows.
“Calendars” is slightly similar to these two, with an infectious backing track that leads the intro and returns in the chorus. The drums also really stand out, driving the rhythm of the song.
“Blueprints” is next, and it’s easily one of my favorite tracks on the entire record. The bass and drums pair with the dreamy guitars in the intro and really stand out throughout the song.
The vocals stand out just as much, especially in the huge chorus. There’s so much emotion found in the entire song, especially in the lyrics, “While you got sicker I was drafting up my blueprints / But as it turns out, they were of no use to me / I’ve been so lost ever since your wings found peace.”
Similarly, “Cost” starts out on the softer side before building up to its captivating choruses and conclusion, which bring harder-hitting instrumentals and another incredible vocal performance. There are a couple of tracks on here that lean towards that softer side, like “Gallon,” a more laid-back track vocally and instrumentally, as well as the second single and meaningful love song “Molecules.”
In contrast, the remaining three tracks showcase the rock and alternative influences within the band’s sound. The third single “Darkside” is a perfect example of this, with an anthemic intro, energetic instrumentation, darker composition, and a charismatic vocal performance.
The emo-tinged “Akathisia” brings a soaring chorus to the table, as well as some intriguing vocals and instrumentals during the verses. It precedes the album’s closer and title track, “Conduit,” where the instrumentals bring a ton of energy leading up to the memorable chorus.
From the well-written lyrics to the stellar performances, “Conduit” is a fantastic record from The Spill Canvas. We can't wait to see what they do next!
“Conduit” is available now on all streaming platforms, and you can support the band by following them on Twitter @TheSpillCanvas and picking up some merch. If you’ve heard the record, be sure to let us know what you think by tweeting us @lgndsoftmrw!
