The Maine's Latest Single Will "Stick" In Your Head - "Sticky" Review

Written by Megan Langley

Throughout the month, The Maine has been posting a series of cryptic teasers, and fans began trying to decipher the clues and hints the band had been dropping. As they eagerly awaited the band to releasing more details about their highly-anticipated eighth album, the moment that the entire fanbase had been waiting for arrived.

The announcement of the Arizona-based quintet’s eighth record, titled “XOXO: From Love And Anxiety In Real Time”, finally came! With this news also came the reveal of the album’s lead single, “Sticky,” which the band dropped last Friday.

The song opens with catchy melodies and guitar riffs that will instantly draw the listener in, and the catchiness continues as the drums build up the pre-chorus and the chorus kicks in. That refrain contains even more memorable hooks that are guaranteed to get stuck in your head, as the lyrics say, “sticky just like the song in my head.”

These riffs and melodies, as well as the upbeat tempo, bring a bright, happy-sounding tone to the track. This will definitely remind listeners of some of the songs on the last few records that this band has released, particularly “English Girls” and “Am I Pretty?” from “American Candy,” “Bad Behavior” from “Lovely Little Lonely,” and “My Best Habit” from “You Are OK.”

The musicality isn’t the only aspect of “Sticky” that brings a sense of optimism to it. The song’s lyrics are centered around love and a happy relationship, and a lot of these lines are really wholesome, such as “I want to put you on like a 45 / and I’ll watch you spin until the sunrise” and “I feel the same rush all over for the first time all over again.”

This track is filled to the brim with positivity, from the upbeat tempo and catchy, major-key composition to the super sweet lyrics. Wiith “XOXO” due out in early July, “Sticky” not only makes for a perfect lead single, but also another fantastic summer anthem from The Maine.

Sticky is available now on all streaming platforms; you can keep up with The Maine on Twitter @TheMaine, and “XOXO: From Love And Anxiety In Real Time” is available for pre-order on their merchandise store. If you’ve heard the song, let us know what you think by tweeting us @lgndsoftmrw!
