Spanish Love Songs Release Powerful B-Side With "Phantom Limb"- Review

Written by Megan Langley

In February of 2020, Spanish Love Songs released their third full-length album, “Brave Faces Everyone,” a powerful and impressive record that captivated fans from the moment they first pressed “play.”

Nearly a year and a half later, the Los Angeles, California-based quintet has returned with a b-side from the album cycle, titled “Phantom Limb.”

The song picks up where the album left off, sharing a lot of similar elements to a lot of the songs on it. The memorable guitar and bass riffs quickly draw the listener in, along with a piano that adds an extra layer of emotion to the track.

The guitars take more of a step back in the verses, as do the drums, which deliver more simplistic parts while the bass and the vocals come to the forefront. One thing that made “Brave Faces Everyone” such a captivating release was how emotive the vocals are, and the same can be said about the vocals on "Phantom Limb", and when the vocals are highlighted in sections such as the verses, the raw emotion shines through even more.

In the bigger choruses are where the drums and guitars kick in once again, and this continues in the bridge, where a harder-hitting drum performance accompanies some more catchy guitar and bass leads. The outro focuses on the vocals and drums once again, concluding the song similarly to how “Brave Faces Everyone” ended.

With “Phantom Limb,” Spanish Love Songs have crafted another poignant and powerful emo track.

“Phantom Limb” is available on all streaming platforms. Be sure to keep up with the band on Twitter @SpanishLuvSongs and pick something up from their offical merch store, and if you’ve heard the track, let us know what you think by tweeting us @lgndsoftmrw!
