South Trees' New Single Is Perfect For A Night-Time "Slow Drive" - Review

Written by Sidney Strunk

Lo-fi pop-rock trio South Trees has just dropped their first single of 2021, called “Slow Drive”. A flawless way to start off their year in music, the song opens with steady, more upbeat pop instrumentals that stay consistent throughout the song.

Once the vocals come in, however, the tone of the track changes into something much deeper than anticipated. This single tells a story of fake support from friends who seem to only be around for the bad times and are never happy for you when things start to look up.

Despite the pleasant instrumentals, the lower, almost haunting vocals convey the hollowness of feeling as if you have no one around to celebrate your successes. “Slow Drive” comes on the heels of the release of South Trees’ debut EP “House Parties” that dropped in May 2020; based on this single alone, it's clear that they have been working diligently since then to create unique tracks that will cement a place for them in the indie-pop scene.
