It’s exactly what every All Time Low fan has been waiting for. On January 21, the band released their new song “Some Kind Of Disaster.” This is huge deal since this is the first new music released in over a year. Fans have been confused and, in a way, frustrated as the band teased multiple videos prior to the new song. These videos were cryptic and referenced previous eras. However, the last video that was released had a new symbol at the very end driving fans into a frenzy. Just hours later, they were rewarded for their patience.
All Time Low took the majority of 2019 away from the band to find themselves again and work on side projects. Eventually, they came together in the studio and found what felt right to them. With a new song, the band put in a statement, “We took a step away for a minute- did some growing, did some soul searching, some healing… Now we’re back and ready to be yours again, our battle scars worn proudly, and our hair looking better than ever.” Believe when I say they truly did not disappoint and came back in the best way. In the chorus of the song, frontman Alex Gaskarth sings about all his negative attributes- a liar, cynic, sinner, loser, critic, ghost of his mistakes- but still being wanted. I love how this song specifically could be taken many different ways. On one hand, you could take it as someone who just doesn’t see themselves as others do. They only see all of their flaws and don’t understand how anyone else can see them in a different light. However, on the other hand, you could possibly consider that maybe it could be from the band’s perspective. The band has been together for almost twenty years. As fans we have seen them evolve through many eras, we keep coming back for more. They take time away, we’re still here pleading for more. Not a single one of us will ever know how they feel or what they go through personally, but they know that they’re still the one we want. No matter how you personally perceive it, I can guarantee we can all agree that this track is absolutely amazing, just feels right, and makes you think “No doubt, that’s All Time Low.”
