"Skin to Skin" - Movements Review

Written by Astrid Elstrom

On Friday, August 21st, 2020, Southern California alternative band Movements released the second single from their upcoming sophomore album, "No Good Left To Give", called “Skin to Skin." The album is set for release on September 18th, including the first single, “Don’t Give Up Your Ghost”, which dropped on July 24th.

Avid listeners of Movements will notice that "Skin to Skin" is unlike the band's previous work since it addresses physical intimacy rather than being centered around mental health or personal struggles. The track displays the growing variety in Movements' discography while also staying true to their overarching theme of being honest and real with the discussions they bring forth through music.

Frontman Patrick Miranda sings about feelings of infatuation and desire for a person coupled with the thoughts that run through one’s head in these personal moments. The chorus states, “tangle me into your limbs / the mystery is killing me / spill your secrets into me, skin to skin,” alluding to emotions of uncertainty and longing for the physical connection, even if it's only for a short period of time.

Mellow instrumentals make the song easy to sit and nod along to, and the transition from the verses to the chorus breathes life into the song in a more fun, flowy, danceable way. Although it's one of few straight-up romantic songs by Movements, it's safe to say that they nailed it on "Skin to Skin."

You can listen to the new track along with the lead single "Don't Give Up Your Ghost" anywhere you stream music and today's song has a music video as well which you can watch here. Preorder bundles for "No Good Left to Give" including vinyl and merch are available here.
