Save Face have announced their long awaited sequel to their 2018 album, “Merci.” The band released their lead single, “GLITTER” last month before coming out with the official album announcement and new single “Bury Me (Tonight!)” on September 9th.
In one word, the track is theatrical. It is reminiscent of early My Chemical Romance in both subject matter and the overall vibe of the song. However, the track is very much Save Face and adequately shows the growth lead songwriter Tyler Povanda has experienced since the band’s last record.
The instrumentation of the song is absolutely incredible. You can get lost in the layers of vocals, guitars, and pianos found throughout, yet it never feels like any part is being smothered.
Each instrument is complementary to each other in every part of the song; it makes it seem more like a song off of a Broadway album rather than a pop-punk band.
The lyrics push the theatrical envelope even further with the visuals they create. The first verse of the song, "Take me to my grave / Because I just can't wait to decay / It's a cemetery wedding and I / just caught the bouquet" makes you feel like you're not just listening to a song, but that you're following a storyline.
From the bridge onward to the end of the song, the listener is able to fully appreciate each part of the three minute theatrical experience. Underneath the "da-da" gang vocals that carry you to the final chorus, the instrumentation is allowed to soar with its multiple layers before the words "Bury me here tonight" bring the song to an abrupt end.
While the album is still a bit over a month away from being released, it's hard to not get excited for "Another Kill for the Highlight Reel." Both "Bury Me (Tonight!)" and "GLITTER" are incredible singles and if they're any indication of how the full album will be, listeners will be in for a special treat.
“Bury Me (Tonight!)” is available to stream everywhere you listen to music, and you can pick up some merch from the new album here! You can also follow the band on twitter @savefacenj. You can let us know what you think of the new single by tweeting us @lgndsoftmrw!
