Having put out her album “Tree Sap” back in 2020, the independent New Jersey-based artist Julia Affinito, also known under her project name of Babie, has released yet another single sure to get you hooked and ready for her upcoming EP.
On May 7th, Babie introduced us to “NYG”. She translates her impressive vocals and clever lyrics into a bittersweet track honing in on the emotions of heartbreak.
Affinito excels in her ability to convey the emotions felt as she reminisces and reflects on the aftermath of her ended relationship. Her emotional lyricism shines throughout her new release.
Melancholy lyrics such as “Funny how someone can turn to a stranger / Just about two months ago you were my love” express a hurt behind how odd it feels to disconnect from someone you held so close. This continues in the chorus when she sings “When I see you around you act like you don’t know me” and questions if she was only loved as an older version of herself.
Instrumentally, the track opens with a soft acoustic guitar leading us into a slow-paced instrumental that compliments Babie’s powerful and emotive vocals throughout the first verse and chorus. Her musical talent emphasizes the emotions, guiding listeners through the track.
However, the track takes a lively turn as Babie begins to deliver vibrant drums, electric guitar, and an energetic new sound throughout the second verse and chorus. This new energy gives the track a standout guitar solo and keeps the pace up, only slowing down to close out the song with a highlight of Babie’s vocal talent.
All in all, “NYG” is a remarkable introduction to what Babie has to offer and gives listeners a look into what they can expect from her in the near future. Make sure to keep a close eye on Babie's future releases and be prepared to be blown away every time.
