“Reminders” - Touche Amore Review

Written by Jennifer Moglia

With just over a week to go until “Lament” is available for fans to hear on October 9th, Los Angeles post-hardcore band Touche Amore have released their fourth and presumably final single before the album is out, titled “Reminders.” The track was teased on the band’s social media the day before it dropped, asking the question, “What serves as a reminder of love in your life?”

Musically, this song is similar to what we’re used to from Touche Amore, and it fits right in with what we’ve heard so far from their upcoming record. The verses are fast-paced and percussion-heavy, with vocalist Jeremy Bolm describing moments in life “when it’s all too much to take” and he is “at capacity.”

The ultra-catchy chorus answers the question of what helps Bolm when he finds himself in these overwhelming situations. “I need reminders of the love I have / I need reminders, good or bad” expresses the need for reassurance and validation in these darker times, a feeling that many are familiar with, especially in today’s crazy world.

That “crazy world” we mentioned is alluded to by Touche Amore in this track as well, when the second verse tells of “a head so beat and drained” that has Bolm “running on empty. The line, “the world collapses with complacency to knee-jerk takes and fantasy” seems to be a reference to how many are reacting to all that is going on right now, from politics, to fights for basic human rights, to the ongoing global pandemic.

The band has released a music video for this song as well, answering that initial issue of what serves as a reminder of love in one’s life. They told fans that “the response was overwhelmingly the same” when they asked their friends that question, and that all would be revealed the next day in the video.

I won’t spoil what the solution to that dilemma was, but the video is definitely worth watching, especially if you want something to brighten up your day. It’s filled with familiar faces as well, from Skrillex, to Frank Iero, to members of alternative staple bands like Rise Against and Jimmy Eat World.

“Reminders” is available to stream wherever you listen to music, and “Lament” will be as well on October 9th. You can keep up with Touche Amore by following them on Twitter @ToucheAmore, and you can support them by picking up some “Lament” merch, including vinyl pre-orders, on their website.
