Over the course of the past few months, Regrown have been putting out a string of singles in preparation for the release of their brand new EP, “Closed Casket Material.” "Low Point” brings one of many impressive vocal performances, and the striking guitars, bass and drums follow suit.
The song opens the EP very strongly and shows listeners what they can expect from the five tracks that follow it up.
The title track, “Closed Casket Material,” is up next, and its lively instrumentals and irresistible melodies make it an excellent choice for the EP’s lead single. The tempo change during the bridge adds an unexpected element of surprise to the song, and this section highlights the guitars and bass as those instruments deliver some extremely catchy riffs that lead up to the song’s outro.
“Cuffed” continues to keep that energy going, with a danceable rhythm that will have listeners opening up a mosh pit when seeing the band live and hearing them play the track. Although the first verse is more laid-back (with the exception of the more amplified vocals and drums), the second verse contrasts quite a bit, and it sounds much more similar to the massive choruses, where the instrumentals really kick in and the vocals deliver one of the best performances on the whole EP.
Catchy bass and guitar riffs accompany more emotive vocals during the bridge, which adds a little bit of aggression to the track prior to the final chorus.
“Chuck Coleman” quickly offers another gripping vocal performance, and it also carries that raw and slightly more aggressive tone heard on the last track. Between those and the powerful instrumentals, the song is filled with fascinating performances throughout its entire duration.
With the second-to-last track, “Silence,” slows things down a little bit, with a more relaxed tempo in comparison to the four tracks that precede it. The guitars open up the song and are its driving force.
The bass and drums, while more subtle, help build the song up as they get added in, and the vocals deliver another stellar performance once they join as well. “Deep End” wraps this EP up, and it includes a lot of what the previous tracks offered, from its rigorous instrumentals to the impressive vocals.
From the moment the listener presses play on the first track of “Closed Casket Material,” the emotion poured into these songs bleeds through, and overall, Regrown has crafted a very engaging EP.
