Hailing from New Jersey, Range Life is the solo project of singer-songwriter Mike Chiarappa. Everything Range Life has put out thus far was performed, recorded, and mixed by Chiarappa in his bedroom during the quarantine periods of the past year or so brought about by COVID-19.
On January 29th, the newest single from Range Life was released. “I Don’t Wanna Be Here Anymore” is a lo-fi track with strong indie and folk influences.
Chiarappa has said that “I Don’t Wanna Be Here Anymore” is written from the perspective of a senior citizen. He elaborates, “When you reach a certain age it’s inevitable that you can’t do much anymore. So, writing this definitely puts things into perspective; being younger and realizing all you can do and change.”
If you would listen to the song just instrumentally, you would not expect the lyrics that go along with it. It’s a fun little tune, but lyrically and vocally you can hear the anger and frustration.
The lyrics “Waking up to think about the old days / Then you can’t remember what you need at the store” and the repeated “I don’t wanna be here anymore” sung in an upset tone makes you as a young person really sympathize with those who are older and slowly slipping away from reality.
Personally, my favorite part of the song is at the end where Chiarappa repeatedly screams, “I don’t wanna be here anymore.” There’s so much emotion in those thirty seconds and you can feel it all.
Overall, this song was put together quite nicely and makes you want to go out and live your life before it’s too late. I’m definitely excited for everything to come for Range Life.
“I Don’t Wanna Be Here Anymore” is available now anywhere you stream music, and you can keep up with Range Life by following the project on Twitter @RangeLifeBand. Let us know how this track put things into perspective for you by tweeting us @lgndsoftmrw!
