Putting Their Own Twist On blackwinterwells' "Iris" - Tooth Cemetery Review

Written by Julia Kender

Tooth Cemetery recently put out their cover of the song “Iris” by blackwinterwells. From the cover art to the song, Tooth Cemetery put their own spin on this song.

It’s super interesting to listen to the two songs in contrast to one another, as Tooth Cemetery took this song and made it their own, while still showing the influence of blackwinterwells.

The song “Iris” that blackwinterwells did is very electronic, static, and reminds you almost of a 2000’s video game with sounds similar to the 8-bit music from old games. It’s a great song, with over 1 million hits on Spotify.

Meanwhile, “Iris” done by Tooth Cemetery, sounds more rock and alternatively influenced. They use effects as well, just in a different way. If you didn’t know this was a cover, you honestly may not have noticed, it sounds unique to the band.

Tooth Cemetery did a great job making this song true to them as a band, while also keeping the integrity of the song that blackwinterwells created.

The cover art for both songs are very overexposed and have themes of red and black, but they both depict two different images. It’s reminiscent of the songs being similar to each other while not being perfect reflections.

The song titles are different, as well, even though one is a cover. The original is in capitals, while the cover is all lowercase. It’s interesting how Tooth Cemetery took this song and revamped it to fit their style. Go out and give this cover by Tooth Cemetery a listen!
