Only ten days before the release of their self-titled debut album, three-piece pop-rock band Young Culture have released the record's fourth single, entitled “Hailey Beverly 2016”. This serves as the follow-up to the album's other three singles, "Holiday in Vegas", "I'll be There", and "Better off as Friends."
The new track is a fun, upbeat song that encompasses themes of young love and growing up, which have always been common in the band’s discography. The opening lyric, “Hailey, I thought about you today / ‘Member when we’d talk sitting in the driveway?”, immediately introduces listeners to an overarching idea of nostalgia.
This nostalgia is also showcased in the song’s lyric video which features beautiful scenic shots of New York with a vintage camera filter. The song takes an unexpected turn in the second verse as the instrumentals incorporate hip-hop influences and we get a taste of something that we’ve never really heard before from the band.
Overall, with evident influences from various genres, “Hailey Beverly 2016” is a rollercoaster from start to finish in the best way possible. In less than three minutes, there are so many small details that make this song unique.
With all of the album’s singles now released, it’s safe to say that we’re in for something very special next week. Each of the four tracks has been so different, and it'll be exciting to see what Young Culture does next on the rest of the record.
“Hailey Beverly 2016” is available to stream wherever you listen to music, and you can keep up with the band by following them on Twitter @YoungCultureNY. You can support them by pre-ordering the album which comes out on October 16th and picking up some merch!
