On Monday, August 3rd, 2020, New Jersey rockers Save Face released “Pour (Redux)”, a reimagined version of “Pour”, a track off of their first full-length, “Merci.” The track debuted at “Shackcraft Monthlies” presented by Summit Shack a virtual music festival on Minecraft and streamed live on Twitch (a sentence that probably would not make sense before March 2020) on May 8th.
Frontman Tyler Povanda teams up with RB Roe on backing vocals, a touring musician with Save Face as well as bands like Jetty Bones and The Weak Days. Somehow, this version is even more heartbreaking than the original, a piano and orchestral arrangement that isn’t as stripped down musically, but is just as vulnerable if not more.
The track is also reminiscent of “Folly on the Rocks”, an EP released by Save Face back in 2017. It includes more subdued versions of each song on the band’s 2016 debut, “Folly.”
“Merci” tells a story of addiction, relapse, recovery, and their impacts on a relationship, specifically the friendship and romantic relationship between two characters named Kaleb and Blake. The songs on the album don’t tell this tale in a play-by-play style, simply exploring the themes previously mentioned as well as perspective, consequences, and objectivity.
“Pour” is the seventh track, marking the halfway point of the 14-track project, and it’s an absolute heart-wrencher, which shines through in this version perfectly. It also comes just in time for the album’s second birthday, roughly a month ago (July 13th).
The band announced on Twitter that they plan to return to the studio this year to record new music, which fans are itching for. No matter when it comes out, we can be sure to expect something just as personal and heartfelt as “Pour (Redux).”
You can listen to “Pour (Redux)” anywhere you stream music, starting on August 3rd. You can support Save Face by buying some music or merch on their online store.
