Plague Skater Perfects His Sound On "plague skater II" - Review

Written by Reece Carmen

New Jersey native Will Schwester just released his sophomore album under the moniker Plague Skater to quite a bit of fanfare. This record was highly anticipated by many, and it absolutely lives up to the hype.

The LP delivers on so many fronts, and is full of the catchy, fuzzed-out, scuzz-pop sound that made so many others fall in love with Plague Skater to begin with. While this full-length still has Schwester’s signature sound that he established on his self-titled debut, it feels far more polished and full of much more mature lyrics.

In addition to improved songwriting, Plague Skater also delivers some really great vocal performances on this album. The songs on this record are fuzzy, loud, and full of angst, but below the surface are deeper and show Schwester exploring ideas of existentialism.

All in all, “plague skater II” delivers a far more cohesive, complete creative vision than last year’s “plague skater”, and while it only clocks in at just over 21 minutes, this LP still feels like a fully realized project. This full-length was really impressive, and it's nice to see Schwester growing and improving so much as an artist in such a short amount of time.
