Our "Sagittarius Superstars", COIN - Review

Written by Astrid Elstrom

On February tenth, indie-pop band COIN put out a new song called “Sagittarius Superstar” just in time for Valentine’s Day. The track is a part of an installment for their EP series, "Rainbow Mixtape."

Following their October release "Indigo Violet", this new single, featuring Georgia singer Faye Webster, is just a sample of what is yet to come from their upcoming EP "Green-Blue", out later this month. Time to cozy up with your very own Sagittarius superstar!

Though we are still very much in the depth of winter’s grasp, at least where I am here in the Midwest, it is nearly impossible not to get wrapped up in the warm, summer-like tones of the song. The poppy instrumental is reminiscent of artists like the Carpenters or The Beatles, 70s staples.

The first line of the pre-chorus is, “I don’t know / If I could ever do without you / And I hope to God / I won’t get the chance to”, such a sweet and wholesome sentiment. The speaker cares for someone so deeply that they hope to never have to be in a position where you have to go without them.

Webster’s vocals come in at the second verse and add light and airy vocals to the track. Her vocals combined with that of COIN’s Chase Lawrence create this nostalgic, lovesick atmosphere.

Overall, this song is an eloquently put dedication of love that is short, delicate, and heartfelt. The vocals and instrumental meld together perfectly and that will leave the listener with a flush of emotions.

"Sagittarius Superstar" is now available on all streaming platforms; you can support the band by following them on Twitter @COIN and picking up some merchandise via their website. If you've listened to the track, tweet us @lgndsoftmrw and let us know what you think!
