Sum 41 has been touring constantly for the past 3 years following the release of their last album 13 Voices, and they have finally given their fans the next big era in their sound. The album titled Order The Decline, sounds like the punk rock Sum 41 that we have all came to know and love; proving even further that this band is not going anywhere anytime soon.
The album starts out with some cool synth noises and guitars leading into the roaring drums that we have grown up with. As per usual, Deryck Whibley’s raspy voice hits us in a way that not many vocalists do. The first track titled Turning Away gives major Linkin Park vibes, Whibley really channeling his inner Chester Bennington (RIP).
The major theme of this album is heavy, but it hits like a punk record should. The lyrics are personal and far from what we are used to in a record coming from Sum 41. The seventh track on this record, titled Never There, is the slowest song on the album. This song includes lyrics about a broken home, and it’s an emotional one.
The last track on the album, titled Catching Fire, is my personal favorite. It’s a great closing song, the lyrics and the music are both very catchy (pun intended) and even though the lyrics are yet again, heavy, the music doesn’t make you feel that way.
I’m excited to see what’s next for Sum 41, and where they will go in the future. This album is definitely at the top of the list for myself and I think that other long term Sum 41 fans will feel the same. Stream Order The Decline on Apple Music and Spotify now!
