Pop princess Olivia O’Brien released her newest song on April 9th, 2021. Titled “Sociopath,” the track is the leading single off of her upcoming record “EPISODES” which will be released in two separate parts, with one coming this spring and one this summer.
Most associate the 21-year-old with her hit single “Josslyn,” or even her 2016 feature on gnash’s track “i hate u, i love u.” The release of “Sociopath” shows a new side of her that just oozes confidence and draws listeners in immediately.
At the start of the track the immediately recognizable theme from classic horror film “Psycho” is sampled, throwing you straight into a horror movie. After a few seconds of the eerie sample playing, O’Brien’s vocals come kicking in.
“Sociopath” tells the story of loving a person who isn’t able to feel anything at all. Lines like “How do you feel nothing / When I feel it all? / I’m sick to my stomach / And you don’t even call me” and “You should feel something / But maybe you can’t / Some kind of madness / Your empathy’s lacking” help to bring this to life, showing just how tough battling with these feelings can be.
In the music video for the track, the "scary movie" vibe was set with dark and stormy visuals. The singer and her friends serve as the cast of characters running from the villain, mixing horror with hints of comedy for a thoroughly entertaining video.
Olivia O'Brien's growth is evident in this song and video, and her talent continues to amaze us. We can't wait to hear what she does next!
"Sociopath" is available to stream wherever you listen to music; you can support Olivia O’Brien by picking something up from her official webstore and following her on Twitter @OliviaGOBrien. Feel free to tweet us with your thoughts on the song @lgndsoftmrw!
