"OK"- Wallows Review

Written by: Emily Lutz

New Wallows music means a whole new era. On March 20th, the band released their new single titled “OK.” This is the first track post 2019 Nothing Happens era.

Fans who saw Wallows on their winter tour and had VIP got to experience this acoustic live version of “OK” before its full-band release one month later. As someone who got to be a part of that, I can definitely say it gave me chills and instantly knew it was going to be one of my favorites. When the studio version was released, there was absolutely no disappointment.

If you’ve listened to Wallows before, you know this track is quite different than everything they’ve done before but in a good way. “OK” feels more poppy than the rest of their discography but that doesn’t exclude it from being one of their top songs. You can definitely feel the growth between their first album and the beginning of the new era.

“OK” is all about the insecurities in a secure relationship. It’s when you know you love them and they love you but, at the same time, in the back of your head you have the fear that everything will slip through your fingers. Lyrics like “You say you love me most, It’s hard to trust it even though I want to” and “I know you never lie, but I self-sabotage, I know your love isn’t just a mirage” are perfect examples of that. However, besides the relationship meaning, we could take the main line, “Can we get up and try to feel okay again?” as a calming feeling during this time of the Covid-19 virus. No matter how we’re feeling and where we are, we’ll feel okay again, and we’re all here for each other.

Wallows’ new track is definitely one of my favorites and has the perfect vibe for the beginning of spring. “OK” is available now anywhere you stream music and be sure to catch them on tour this June!
