Not My Weekend Takes Listeners Though The Joys of "Honeymoon" - Review

Written by Sydney Durst

Not My Weekend, a pop-rock band hailing from Wyoming, released their highly anticipated debut record “Honeymoon” early this year. An upbeat and optimistic love-struck album, fans of bands like Hot Chelle Rae and Waterparks will definitely gravitate to it.

Songs like the title track “Honeymoon” and “Say You’re Mine” express the feelings of being in love in a way that’s fun and just a bit cheesy, while still keeping true to rock guitars and a solid drum beat. Paired with lyrics like “Do you want to get hitched in Vegas? / Spoil our kids until they hate us?” from “Honeymoon” or “I used to be your boy like Boys Like Girls” from the song “Come Over,” the listener can’t help but sing along.

This record breaks from the mold by being purely happy and fun in a time where life may be anything but joyful for many of us. Its release time being at the start of 2021 echoes a unified feeling of wanting to experience enjoyment again.

Other highlights include “UwU” and “Lux Run Out”, which fit into the album without completely diluting the core theme and overall tone of the LP. These tracks allowed the band to showcase their more humorous nature that they’ve displayed previously on platforms like Twitter and TikTok.

Musically, Not My Weekend has certainly grown since their debut as a band, which was almost three years ago with their EP “Yellow.” We're definitely looking forward to seeing what they bring to the music scene in the future!

“Honeymoon” can now be listened to on all streaming platforms, and to support Not My Weekend directly you can purchase their merch and also give them a follow on Twitter @NotMyWeekendWyo! Let us know your own thoughts on “Honeymoon” by tweeting at us @lgndsoftmrw!
