"Never Meant By Americ anFootball"- Hechael Review

Written by: Averie Ridings

On February 28th, Michigan band Hechael (pronounced Heckle) independently released their debut single, Never Meant by Americ anFootball.

The track sounds like something straight out of the 2000’s alternative scene. Rugged vocals over a more simple guitar progression give the song an edgier vibe, with verses being strung along by a guitar melody interlude, making this a beautiful piece to listen to. These same vocals take what could’ve been a soft acoustic song and make it into a powerful, captivating piece that makes you want to sing along with every word. All of the sonic aspects of the song already make it amazing, but the lyrics are what really make it everything that it is.

The lyrics were a team effort made by both members of the band, Hector Torres and Michael Klave. They tell a story with the song, from the perspective of someone who tried being there for someone who just didn’t seem want them around. Klave writes in the pre-chorus, “I tried to be a net for you, but you wanted to hit the ground,” one of the more pain-filled lines of the piece. While most of the track sounds to be angry, the way that both the first and last lines of the song are “I’m sorry,” adds a melancholic, regretful undertone.

This may be their first release, but I assure you- you’re not going to want to skip this one. Be sure to follow Hechael on Twitter and Instagram (@hechaelwastaken) to stay updated on what they have in store!
