Millington Ends The Year With Fun Christmas Cover - "Snow Miser/Heat Miser" Review

Written by Madison Boyce

2020 has been a tough year for everyone, let alone those who work in the music industry. Bands of any size were left struggling, and if they wanted to continue to make music, their resources were limited.

Fortunately, worrying about getting studio time in the middle of a pandemic wasn't an issue for Millington; all of their music is recorded and produced by frontman Cody Okonski in his own house! With easy access to recording equipment, the band was able to put out two EPs this year and has just released a Christmas cover to close out the year.

In April, Millington released “Beatdown Generation”, one of my personal favorite releases of 2020. After riding the wave of the aforementioned EP, the Albany, NY natives put out a cover EP titled “Brass Emo Vol. 1” in October.

This release saw the ska-punk rockers cover bands like Less Than Jake, Trash Boat, Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance, and more! They were able to add their own sound to everyone's favorite emo classics, making for a solid release.

Yesterday, Millington released a cover of “Snow Miser/Heat Miser.” The song was originally recorded in 1974 for the animated special “The Year Without A Santa Claus.”

The group vocals on this track really stand out, in addition to Okonski's lead vocals. Any discussion about this band should highlight his incredible vocal ability and presence as a frontman.

Adding the ska-punk sound onto a Christmas classic was not something I pictured happening, but once again I am thoroughly impressed with what Millington brought to the table. Throughout this track, Cody Okonski adds some screams (potentially an indicator of what to expect from the band in the future?) which were even more of a shock.

If you are a fan of Christmas music, ska, or pop-punk I highly recommend checking out Millington’s cover of “Snow Miser/Heat Miser”. Their other releases from 2020, EPs “Beatdown Generation” and “Brass Emo Vol 1”, are also worth a listen if you haven't already heard them!

"Snow Miser/Heat Miser" is available to stream everywhere you listen to music, in addition to Millington's entire discography; you can support the band by following them on Twitter @MillingTweets or picking up some merch.
