Love Trapezium Releases Political New Single - “Pick Up the Rest” Review

Written by Nolan Primavera

Experimental indie-rap group Love Trapezium, known for their large TikTok following, recently released “Pick Up the Rest.” The new single discusses everything from Western indifference to the Sri Lankan War, using hard-hitting lyrics and a very mellow, somber tone.

The band sampled an interview with MIA, a well-known British/Sri Lankan artist, on this track to help amplify the message of the song. It definitely better exposes the injustice happening in Sri Lanka today through audio clips from someone so directly involved, and who speaks very powerfully on the subject.

The power of MIA’s words doesn't detract from Love Trapezium’s lyrics, performed by vocalist Isambard Dexter. In both the song and the music video released alongside it, Dexter’s vocals are the focal point and demand to be heard, the perfect tone for such an important topic.

The music video itself is a work of art. Using transitions centered around a phone screen and backgrounds of city streets and nature scenes, the video creates an atmosphere in which these tough subjects can be talked about, and in a very impactful way that reaches listeners very easily. In the video, when confrontational lyrics are being said, the transitions become more rapid and start focusing on Dexter’s face rather than the scenes behind them, forcing the audience to think and become aware of what is being said, educating them on a cause that needs to have more eyes on it.

In trying to make the world a better place, serious issues and crises need to be spoken about and shared. In “Pick Up the Rest”, Love Trapezium flawlessly combines indie and rap elements sonically while also pushing to the front issues that matter to them, which is an extremely commendable feat.
