In The Mourning Brings Their All With "The Way It Goes Both Ways"- Review

Written by Megan Langley

In The Mourning debuted with “At What Cost” in the summer of 2021, and the nine months that followed have been quite busy. Since that first release, the project has gotten quite a bit of recognition, amassing over 3,000 monthly listeners and tens of thousands of streams on Spotify.

Following the mid-March release of her sophomore single “If he wanted to, he would.,” In The Mourning has released her third single titled “The Way It Goes Both Ways.”

Catchy guitars and drumbeats drive the song’s intro before the vocals come in to start off the first verse. In The Mourning's front-woman Amanda Tran offers a stellar vocal performance right off the bat, and the vocal harmonies really add more to the performance.

The drums deliver some noteworthy fills leading up to the chorus, where they also stand out quite a bit alongside the vocal performance. That vocal talent continues to be displayed even more in the second verse and the bridge that occurs later on in the track, two sections where the bass is much more prominent in the mix. Pounding drums do a great job of building up to the song’s final chorus, which wraps it up very well.

From its impressive performances to the catchy instrumentation and melodies throughout, “The Way It Goes Both Ways” is another fantastic single from In The Mourning.

“The Way It Goes Both Ways” is available on all streaming platforms. You can keep up with In The Mourning on Twitter @inthemourningLA, pick something up from the band’s merch store here.
