Homesafe is never coming clean…or that's what they believe, at least. On October 30th, the Chicago band released their latest single, “Coming Clean.”
When announcing the song, the group prefaced that it was recorded in June 2020, but “was conceived in the spring of 2019.” On Twitter, they also mentioned how the song had been a long time coming.
The track starts with guitar riffs and drums that will make listeners nostalgic for early 2010’s rock. One line that stood out was when singer and guitarist Ryan Rumchaks states “You’re so calloused and so serene / But silent for those in need / So where do you go when you need help?”
This can be interpreted as a way to recognize this pattern in the behavior of closing yourself off from others. They’re not there for the people they care about when they need help, and they’re not even there for themself and their own emotional needs.
In the refrain, Rumchaks continues with, “If all you know is what you’re chasing, you’re not alone / Are you?” As an aspiring artist, this resonates well because sometimes you get so caught up and invested in your work that you lose sight of what’s going on around you.
Balance is such an important aspect to add to one’s lifestyle in any situation, which is easier said than done. The song leaves the listener with the line, “I believe one day this place will be / Somewhere to call home for everyone,” an earnest yet favorable way for the listener to connect with the song and build a community through it.
