Highwind, otherwise known as Chris Russo, has been ecstatic for weeks now leading up to the release of his latest songs. These two tracks are his first release since March so everyone including myself were very excited.
First song of twofer “Reds & Blues” is a high energy “not your average” pop-rock love song as he describes the different emotions and forms that can conspire through love.
The line that sticks out like no other, and sets the tone for the song is the opening line “pictures are worth a thousand words, or more / It's a shame some can’t see what it’s worth." It sets the mood for the song and helps create imagery and emotion for the listener, and he doesn’t just stop there; Russo also uses nature to his ability to add dimension to the beauty of what love could be.
Second song of the release “Never Sitting Pretty” is the self-help and empowerment anthem we have all been waiting for. This pop-rock track is elevated by the instrumentals of the thrilling drum beats and the guitar riff’s richness throughout the song, and play a large role in the storyline.
We go from hearing about someone who’s been in a rut for a bit, and struggling to hearing them leave that feeling and mentality behind to someone who knows they can get through anything, and that things do get better. Lines throughout the song that stick out are “I’m trying my best to progress, but it’s exhausting” and "I swear I'm gonna keep on fighting / Until I feel my lungs stop breathing."
This song remains true to an everyday feeling, and even more so in this day and age as people are fighting to get better, or be better. Highwind is a force to be reckoned with as each and every release he does gets better and better. I can say that this release to date this is personally my favorite.
