"Halloween"- Never Coming Home Review

Written by: Emily Lutz

Providence pop punk band Never Coming Home continues to give us reasons why we shouldn’t look away from everything they have going on. Ironically on Thanksgiving, the band released their newest single “Halloween.” This is the second song the group has released since they formed. Produced by former frontman of Oh, Weatherly, Blake Roses, this track proves the band means business and for sure are the ones to look out for.

Never Coming Home uses lyrics like “It’s been three months or so, they said it’d get better” and “I’ve waited it out just like they said I should” to show those times when you’re mental health is at its all time low. People will tell you that eventually things will be okay but after so long it’s hard to believe that’s true. In the chorus, the lyrics “I’ll keep on the mask days after Halloween” relates to when you just need to keep pretending to be happy, not let anyone know what’s actually underneath, like someone wearing a mask for the holiday. Then, after being so over it, you get to this certain point. As the band puts it, “I can’t keep up this act, pretending to be happy, so I’ll push everyone away from me.” It’s the feeling of being suffocated and just needing to shut everyone out in hopes that will resolve everything.

This amazing new track is truly impressive vocally, instrumentally, and lyrical given how young and new this band is. Never Coming is no doubt on the rise so don’t blink or you just might miss them absolutely blow up the music scene. As stated from frontman Anthony Hefler, “This is where we want to be. This song was written at a hard time in my life and means a lot to me and I hope that emotion shines through the song. This song is an example of where we are and where we want to be.”

“Halloween” is now available anywhere you stream music and if you’re anywhere near Providence be sure to catch Never Coming Home at their next show on January 2nd!
