Good Kid Creates Intimate Acoustic Setting - "Slingshot" Acoustic Review

Written by Julia Kender

On Friday, alternative-indie band Good Kid released an acoustic version of their song "Slingshot." The track is on their EP "Good Kid 2’", which was released in November 2020.

Good Kid did a similar version of their song "Down With the King", but for "Slingshot", the whole band was incorporated more. In the video for the former, frontman Nick Frosst and guitarist Jacob Tsafatinos were featured primarily, while the rest of the band would pop in behind them to do the callback parts of the song.

The acoustic rendition of "Slingshot" sees all of the band playing their instruments, not just the acoustic guitar like in "Down With the King." Both songs done acoustically were good in their own respect, and the fact they differed from each other makes them all the more special.

The setting of the band together on a couch and Jon Kereliuk on the drums beside them made for a lovely setting, letting fans feel like they were apart of the song. In such an intimate environment, it almost feels like the viewer is watching an acoustic set live, and while we’re not allowed to watch live music right now, it’s a pretty special atmosphere that Good Kid was able to create.

On Good Kid 2, "Slingshot" falls third on the six-song EP and it’s a really upbeat song. Hearing it stripped down the way the band did for the acoustic version is really interesting, and Frosst's raw vocals breathe new life into it.

Good Kid's entire discography is available to listen to wherever you stream music, and their video for the acoustic version of "Slingshot" is live on YouTube right now. You can support the band by picking up some merch, playing their online game(!!!), following them on Twitter @GoodKidBand, and letting us know what you thought of the stripped-down track by tweeting us @lgndsoftmrw!
