Gloss Releases Fun New EP - "Entwined" Review

Written by Julia Kender

Super fun Philadelphia girl band gloss put out their EP “Entwined” on March 26th. The release features four tracks and all of them are songs to jam to; the overall vibe of this EP will make you want to get up and move!

The band can be classified as indie-pop/R&B and their music is reminiscent of early 2000s Corinne Bailey Rae as well as Hiatus Kaiyote. Track one serves as a perfect opener.

“Third Person” starts with soft vocals from Sophia Grosshauser and gentle instrumentals. Then, the tempo picks up and it feels totally different, making you want to bop your head along to the beat.

The second track, “Play Myself Again”, is a faster song in comparison to the first track's beginning. The brighter song is almost reminiscent of Rebecca Sugar and the music she made for Cartoon Network hits Steven Universe and Adventure Time.

“Mariposa” features the keyboard pretty heavily. There's a really nice musical intro before the vocals come in, and it's another brighter song.

The final track, “Walk On” is more moody, but still a song you’d find yourself moving your head or tapping your foot along to. The beat mixed with Grosshauser’s vocals combine together perfectly.

All of the songs of “Entwined” flow well into each other, and it’s a really promising EP. Keep an eye on gloss, they have something really special going on here!
