Atlanta-based pop-rock band Glimmers entered the scene late last year, dropping a few singles and eventually releasing their debut EP “Cluttered Heart” shortly after. Fast forward a few months, and now the quintet has returned with the release of their latest track, “Not Good At Goodbyes,” the lead single off of their forthcoming sophomore effort, “Worlds Apart.”
The song starts on a much more simplistic note, opening with an acoustic guitar riff before frontwoman Maggie Schneider delivers a soulful vocal performance during the first verse and the pre-chorus it precedes. The plucked guitar strings and subtle piano accompany her performance leading up to the chorus, which is where the drums really start to kick in and turn the song into a harder-hitting ballad.
The electric guitars join in shortly after, pairing up with the previously mentioned instruments to help drive the second verse. This next section features a vocal performance from Nick Pena, who makes indie-pop music under the moniker lostbody.
The band’s pop-punk and alternative influences are incorporated here, the lively instrumentals bring a lot more energy to the song during this section. Pena returns in the bridge, and the vocal performances from him and Schneider add a lot of extra emotion to the track before the percussion prepares listeners for its anthemic final chorus.
Glimmers know how to write a very strong ballad, and “Not Good At Goodbyes” is further proof of that. The raw emotion that the band put into the song shines through in the vocal and instrumental performances that the members of the band (as well as the song’s featured guest) deliver, and overall, it’s a captivating track from them.
“Not Good At Goodbyes” is now available on all streaming platforms, and Glimmers’ upcoming EP, “Worlds Apart,” will be released on April 23rd, 2021 via Common Ground Collective.
