Get "Messed Up" With Saturn Lane - Review

Written by Astrid Elstrom

On April 30th, New York City pop singer-songwriter Saturn Lane released her second single titled “Messed Up.” Before this release, she had dropped a track called “Want You Bad” in August 2020.

Lyrically, the song seems to be about not wanting to see someone ever again after a relationship ends, but still having to face them either by seeing them or hearing about them through mutual friends. Feelings of frustration, hurt, and grief are definitely present.

The chorus is particularly striking, especially when Saturn sings the lines, “'Cause you / Were running from my head / Running from my heart / Running from the start.” Her feelings of being pushed away and experiencing anxiety paints a vivid picture of a one-sided relationship.

For fans of Lights and early Kelly Clarkson, Saturn Lane is certainly an artist to watch. Her strong, heartwrenching vocals are reminiscent of these artists as well as other powerful women in music.

As a whole, Saturn Lane’s “Messed Up” is a beautiful exploration of why a relationship ended. The story is told in a captivating, melodic form.

“Messed Up” is available to stream wherever you listen to music, and you can keep up with Saturn Lane by following her on Twitter @SaturnLane. Let us know what you think of "Messed Up" by tweeting us @lgndsoftmrw!
