Frnd Crcl on "Internet Noise", New Music, Future Tours and Quarantine - Interview

Interview by Madison Boyce

Now that their new record has been out in the world for a little while, we had the opportunity to sit down with New Jersey pop-punk band Frnd Crcl. We talked about "Internet Noise", putting an album out during a pandemic, and future touring plans.

Madison Boyce: For those who don't know, who is Frnd Crcl?

Aaron Smith: FRND CRCL is hopefully your next favorite band that’s cool, modern, and pop-punk as fuck.

MB: Where did the band name come from?

Zac Johnson: It’s just a name that stuck cause my friends and I used to stand in a circle to communicate back in high school.

MB: With the newest record, “Internet Noise”, what bands/artists who would you say inspired this record?

Adam Skirvin: The Band Camino, The Story So Far, Trophy Eyes, and Issues.

Dom Giacalone: Hop Along, Pinegrove, Phoebe Bridgers. Some softer stuff to be honest.

Aaron: You Me At Six, Twin Atlantic, and The Story So Far!

ZJ: Blink 182, Green Day, The Band Camino, and The 1975.

MB: How has it been releasing a record during the middle of a pandemic?

ZJ: It’s been completely different. We had a bunch of plans, including a tour with [our friends] in Goalkeeper, but we eventually came to realize that this pandemic is a completely different type of roadblock when it comes to music.

Aaron: It may have prohibited us from doing a lot, but it also gave us the opportunity to sit back and work on our craft all that much more; I mean, 'cause what else was there to do, you know? I think that’s going to show on the next project we release.

MB: My favorite track off of “Internet Noise” is “Deception”, but what would you each say your favorite track is, and why?

ZJ: “The Waiting Game”, because it’s dark yet inspiring with a boppy chorus.

Adam: “End of the World." It has the best production on the album and it severely gets slept on by the public.

DG: Agreed.

Aaron: “Something ‘Bout You”, because as the opener I feel like it grabs the listener right from the start.

MB: What’s your dream lineup, one that you would be playing on or not?

ZJ: Honestly, any band that fits our vibe and we have a good time being around. We’d love to play shows with the bigger bands like Blink 182, The Band Camino, Seaway, and so on, but we’d [also] have a blast just playing shows with the boys in Goalkeeper, Midfield, and Yearbooks.

MB: Going off of that, who do you guys want to play shows with after quarantine? Any new cities or venues you want to play in particular?

Aaron: Everyone in the band would like to experience the midwest at some point, Detroit and especially Chicago. The Windy City seems to be a perfect place for pop-punk and an area we could thrive in.

MB: If you could say anything to the people reading this right now, what would it be?

ZJ: We’re still working full time as far as recording and releasing, just not playing the shows. For instance, we’re releasing a new single called “Joyride 2.0”, which was a song off our debut album back in 2017.

Aaron: We’ve reworked it as an entire band and it will be released under our label Lost Music Collective on November 13th! Beyond that, we hope to have brand new material at some point in 2021, the goal right now is to stay safe and continue creating cool, crisp, modern music we all love.

Big thanks to the guys in Frnd Crcl for being kind enough to make some time in their schedules to chat with us! This is definitely a band you want to keep on your radar before they blow up and make it big.
