Floral Grey Release Dynamic Debut Single - “Scarlet” Review

Written by Megan Langley

At the beginning of October, New Jersey-based band Floral Grey launched on social media. Over the past month, they’ve been posting teasers on their accounts and preparing for the release of their debut single, titled “Scarlet.”

The intro of the track instantly brings a dark, eerie, and haunting tone. The drums, guitars, and bass quickly bring a lot of energy as well, as we transition into the first verse and heavier vocals start to come in.

Catchy lead guitar parts accompany this vocal performance before a furious pre-chorus where the instrumentals become even more energetic and the vocals become even more aggressive. This precedes a slightly slower and much softer refrain that incorporates some elements of melodic hardcore.

There's a drastic change in the dynamics before the volume gets turned back up and the song gets louder once again. The next verse picks up the pace, and the instrumentals continue to drive the song’s vigorous rhythm, leading up to the bridge and hard-hitting ending.

“Scarlet” showcases the mix of influences that Floral Grey may have been inspired by, creating a very distinct sound. Overall, it makes for a dynamic and promising debut that will leave listeners curious about what will come next from the band.

“Scarlet” is now available on all streaming platforms, and you can keep up with Floral Grey on Instagram and Facebook. If you’ve heard the track, be sure to let us know what you think by tweeting us @lgndsoftmrw!
