Flight Club Shows Their Versatility on New Track - "Dust Bunny" Review

Written by Madison Boyce

Richmond, Virginia's Flight Club released their newest single “Dust Bunny” on December 4th, 2020. After making a huge switch in sound with their single “Good Intent” back in 2019, they continue to prove that they will still bring the heat no matter what genre they are grouped in with.

Following "Good Intent", they released EP “Recreational Love” and announced their signing to Richmond-based label Open Your Ears Records. Not even a year after dropping their EP, they released new single “Adolescence” earlier this year.

With each release in their discography, they raise the bar even higher, bending their sound and not sticking to one definitive sound. Their hard work shows in each song they put out, but especially in “Dust Bunny”.

“I’m not ready to go” is a lyric that is repeated quite often in the song by vocalist Charlie Mahoney, bringing a sort of comfort to the listener that can only be found in Flight Club tracks. The line also serves as the cover art for the single.

The lyrics, “So tell me was it all for nothing or was it all for show? / Been holding on to something and never letting go / I’m not ready, no I'm not ready to go” make it seem as if this song is about holding onto a relationship of some sort that the narrator felt comfortable in. As the track goes on, it's evident that the feeling of security wasn’t reciprocated.

Mahoney’s powerful vocals are probably my favorite thing about this new song. Something about his voice just exudes angst on this track, which fits the lyrics perfectly.

"Dust Bunny" is available to stream wherever you listen to music and you can support Flight Club by following them on Twitter @FlightClubVA and picking up some merch. If you checked out the song, feel free to let us know what you thought by tweeting us @lgndsoftmrw!
