On March 12th, Richmond, Virginia's Flight Club put out a new song titled "Come Back." The band, signed to Open Your Ears Records, also released a music video to accompany the track.

The is a slower song, but not quite acoustic. It gets more intense at some parts with the guitar and drums, but the vocals stay softer, the contrast helping to elevate the intensity.

Lyrically, “Come Back” is about an abusive or toxic relationship and the feelings that come with getting out of it and freeing yourself. The song truly captures how difficult walking away from a situation like this can be.

The lyric that really made me realize how much intensity this song holds is, “it all comes to light eventually.” This is because in relationships like that, as much as both parties tend to try and hide it, all of their problems will come out at some point.

While this topic can be hard to listen to, let alone make a song about, it's crucial to break the stigma and keep talking about it. Luckily, there is a sense of hope amongst the intensity of the song, which parallels real life in these situations.

The music video takes place in black and white, which gives the feeling of a more intimate and almost nostalgic environment. Bouncing between shots of the band and shots of a couple dancing, this serves as a perfect visual companion to the song.

In the beginning, the woman is driving and going back to the man. Halfway through the song, the relationship becomes abusive, and the woman is seen attempting to flee the man’s embrace.

When she finally does break free, she has these flashbacks of when it was good between her and her partner, but she continues on alone. As unfortunate as these situations and feelings are, they are relatable for so many people.

Much like the song, the video ends on a hopeful note. Even though the majority of it takes place within the relationship, the girl does escape and is better off for it.

Flight Club took a very sensitive but still important topic and presented it in a hauntingly beautiful way in both the song and video. Spreading awareness and breaking the stigma around abusive relationships is crucial, and any band who takes steps towards that gets all of our love and respect.
