Virginia’s own Flight Club have done it again on their newest album, “Until The Sun Drowns.” Released on July 30, 2021, the band’s newest album is a nostalgic trip back to middle school, in the best way.
Most would stick Flight Club in the pop-punk genre, but they aren't strictly defined it. You can find influences of emo, rock, metal, grunge, and so much more throughout their discograph.
“Until The Sun Drowns” is a great exploratory album by the band. From “Adolescence” to “Like You Mean It,” Flight Club knows exactly what they’re going for.
“Adolescence” is the premier stand-out from the album, and for good reason. Invoking music acts from the 90’s and early 2000’s like Lifehouse, “Adolescence"'s Shinedown-like introduction is a trip to an easier time, when a teenager’s biggest problem was forgetting to bring the Zima to a party.
“Good Company” was another stand-out track, sitting up high on the pop-punk shelf. A driving drum beat, meandering overdriven guitar notes in the verse, and a catchy chorus make this song a great road trip playlist addition.
“Like You Mean It” pairs a Devo-like riff with a 90’s sounding verse to create a head-bopping, rockable song, bringing the listener to an 80’s cafeteria and a mid-2000’s rock club.
Flight Club’s “Until The Sun Drowns” is a rocking record, well worth checking out on your preferred streaming service. Like the band? Support them by following them on Twitter @flightclubva or by grabbing some merch from their website here.
