Baltimore, Maryland-based band Fighting For Daylight have released a handful of singles and a couple of EPs since their initial debut in 2017. After closing out 2020 with a live session of “McPick 2”, a song originally off of their 2018 EP “Songs To Help You Sleep At Night”, the band began 2021 with the release of a brand new single titled “Six Seasons and a Movie.”
Hard-hitting instrumentals lead the intro, while softer vocals and arpeggiated lead guitar parts take the reins throughout the first verse, bringing simple, yet catchy melodies and riffs before the drums kick in during the pre-chorus to help drive the rhythm. The huge chorus that follows it up contains performances that really grabbed my attention and added a lot of extra emotion to the track.
Much like the first verse, the second one is also softer and more simplistic, but the drums, bass, and guitar brought a lot more energy to the track in preparation for the return of the captivating chorus. The bridge is where the band’s much heavier influences are added into the mix, as pounding instrumentals accompany some much harsher vocals leading up to a brutal breakdown and a powerful final chorus that concludes the song on a very strong note.
Fighting For Daylight incorporates a pretty wide range of influences into their music, and this song showcases that, from the emo and alternative rock elements found throughout the punchy intro, more laid-back verses, and emotive pre-choruses and choruses to the much more aggressive side of their sound that’s displayed during the bridge and breakdown. “Six Seasons and a Movie” blends all of these genres and subgenres together to create a mesmerizing and very impressive track.
