California Post-Hardcore Movements give us a taste of who they are now as a band with their first original song in three years titled “Dont Give Up Your Ghost.” This is the first single off of their sophomore LP No Good Left To Give, out September 18th. In typical Movements fashion, this track does not disappoint and forces you to feel something.
“Don’t Give Up Your Ghost” touches upon the perspective of someone dealing with and consoling a very good friend with suicidal tendencies. No matter what side of that situation you’ve been on, it’s never easy. The first verse feels like a weight on your chest. Between the vocals and instrumentals, you can sense the hurt and helplessness. In the pre-chorus and chorus, the lyrics, “I’ve been there before, laying on the floor” and “Can’t you see the green underneath the snow, If you leave, you’ll never know” feel almost like a lifeline. While the subject matter is dark, you’re shown that someone has felt what you felt and there are brighter days coming. The band responded to a Youtube comment on the music video for the song saying the concept of the words ‘don’t give up your ghost’ is “open for interpretation.” Personally, it all feels like a warm hug while someone says “stay, you matter.”
“Don’t Give Up Your Ghost” is available now anywhere you stream music and No Good Left To Give is available for preorder to be released September 18th. The National Suicide Prevention Hotline is available to anyone in suicidal crisis or emotional distress- 1-800-273-8255. From all of us at Legends of Tomorrow, you are loved.
