Australian singer-songwriter Dean Lewis, best known for his single "Be Alright" which saw popularity on video-sharing app TikTok as well as some radio play, has recently put on a live stream show titled "Live & Unplugged" after taking some time off due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The setlist started off with two of his biggest hits, “Waves” and “Stay Awake,” before a more recent track titled “Used To Love,” a collaboration he made with EDM artist Martin Garrix.
He picked up the pace a bit with “7 Minutes” before slowing things down again during “Chemicals.” After that, he played a much older track, “Lose My Mind,” a song that can be found on his debut EP “Some Kind Of Different” and that is frequently included in his setlists.
Next up, he played the beautiful ballad “Half A Man,” and before starting the song, he talked a bit about his songwriting process and how proud he was of the lyrics he wrote for the track. Prior to starting the set, Lewis stated that he would be playing a surprise cover, and there was not one, but two of those within the setlist.
One of them was “Adore” by Amy Shark, a musician who, just like Lewis, is also from Australia. The song was initially featured on his debut EP, and although it has hardly made an appearance in his recent setlists, Lewis decided to bring it back because of how much the fans enjoy his rendition of the song and wanted to hear it in a live setting. The other cover was of a timeless pop-rock/alternative classic, “Iris” by The Goo Goo Dolls.
Towards the end of the set, he played two more songs from his record, “Hold Of Me” and “Straight Back Down,” particularly slower, more stripped-down versions of those songs. It was interesting to hear different renditions of two songs that are generally a lot more upbeat and energetic.
The set concluded with “Be Alright,” which he preceded with a speech about just how significantly the song impacted his career as a musician and changed his life overall. He followed up that song with his most recent track, “Falling Up,” which he released back in April.
The entire performance showcased the immense talent Lewis has as a musician. The setlist was filled with fan favorites, covers, and rarities, and overall, the “Live & Unplugged” stream was a great show to watch.
