Dead Poet Society's End of a Relationship and Start of an Era - ".loveyoulikethat." Review

It's a sad but well-known fact that not all relationships will last. While not the cheeriest of topics, this is exactly what Dead Poet Society tackles in their new single “.loveyoulikethat.”.

In this new song, they don’t shy away from or sugarcoat the pain of a failing relationship. Right from the start of the track, vocalist Jack Underkofler details a breakup with the heartbreaking lyrics, “I’ll say the words and you’ll listen / The tears they fall, then they glisten now / Baby hold me, one last time.”

It becomes clear in the chorus that his relationship isn’t a healthy one. Underkofler’s voice is powerful and raw as he sings the lines “You say that you love me but won’t let me breathe.”

As the song ends, the singer's decision is made and the relationship ends. There is nothing left to do but hope that the other person isn’t completely torn apart and that, in time, the hurt will heal and they’ll find someone else.

The final lyrics make it obvious that neither party is coming out of this unscathed. We can't decide if it'd be harder to say this line or to hear it from someone else; “Who am I to hold you back / From finding someone who can love you like that?”

We would love to hear your thoughts on the new single and how excited you are for this band's new record! Tweet us @lgndsoftmrw and tell us what you think.
