Christian Sparacio “Melts” Our Hearts with Modern English Cover - "I Melt With You" Review

Written by Richie Oliver

It takes a lot for a cover to surpass the original, but in Christian Sparacio’s case, “less is more.” About a month after the acoustic release of his song “About Time,” Sparacio decided to take on the Modern English classic “I Melt With You.”

Taking the slower route, the singer's sultry vocals pour like melted chocolate over an already smooth instrumental, giving this cover a super chilled-out feel. Slowing down the song rather than replicating the upbeat pop sound of the original actually changes the meaning of the song.

Paying closer attention to lyrics is something that Sparacio does phenomenally. We've previously compared him to Jim Croce, which rings true again here; Sparacio tackles subjects of importance to him, and “I Melt With You” is no exception to the rule.

Sparacio’s command over the original song’s lyrical content adds another layer to the already complex original. He asks the audience to really examine their relationships; is everything truly working out, or is there something underlying that might hinder it?

One of the best moments of the track comes instrumentally with the inclusion of horns. During the last ten seconds, a lone trumpet is heard powering over the instrumentals, triumphantly ushering in its ending and propelling it to the stratosphere.

Christian Sparacio is a musician that many should look up to, not only for how he plays with feel, mood, and ambiance, but for how he carves out new pathways in music that need to be explored; rarely does a cover make someone look at a song differently. The vocalist has succeeded in creating a rendition that not only does the original justice, but makes the audience see the track in a completely new light.
